Kalifi has been explaining the origins of her name on countless occasions through out her life. Each time she does, she is reminded of her parents partnership. Kalifi would normally associate her name with the spirit of her parents principals, but describes in Making It In High Heels, how her inspiration was nearly lost when death came between that spirit and partnership.
Kalifi was very close to her father growing up. They shared a special bond and were very open and honest with each other. Kalifi details the last days of her fathers life and follows up with how her life changed after his passing.

I was soldiering through my third term in university, and presenting an unruffled face for my friends’ benefit and an attempt for a semblance of normalcy. ~
